The Long Way Here
Fernanda grew up in Porto Alegre, Brazil, one of five siblings in a house that was rarely quiet. That early crowd of voices shaped how she thinks about family — as something you stay close to on purpose, not by accident. She studied family medicine in Brazil and served as a Medical Officer in the Brazilian Air Force before pathology became her focus. The shift toward anatomic and clinical pathology demanded a different kind of attention: slower, more exact, built on getting the detail right the first time.
That same attention shows up in how she travels. She favors short trips over long ones, three or four days rather than two weeks, because she has found frequency does more for her than length. Madrid, Barcelona, Santiago — cities she returns to or adds to the list, usually after talking the idea through with a friend first. She says saying a plan out loud is what sharpens it before she commits.
Mornings are protected time, no messages, just an hour to think before the day's demands start competing for attention. It is a small ritual, but it runs through everything else: the lab work, the research, the packing list for a weekend by the coast. This site is where those threads meet — medicine on one side, movement on the other, family holding both together.
